Biodegradeable bags made from renewable, organic material such as cornstarch can be composted, reducing landfill waste.

   They avoid the use of petrol in the manufacture of the bags and also reduce the danger to marine life posed by discarded plastic bags. Clean Up Australia estimates 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles are killed by plastic debris each year, but biodegradable bags will break down relatively quickly in the ocean. 

   Other types of biodegradeable packaging includes foodwrap film; disposable cups, cultery and plates for catering and picnics; and product packaging for a range of goods.
