Most children's clothes are made from either cotton or polyester. Both have environmental issues: polyester and nylon derive from oil while growing cotton uses huge amounts of chemical pesticides and fertilisers. Instead look for organic cotton, hemp, linen or bamboo children's clothes. Because kids, especially young ones, are likely to outgrow clothes before they wear them out, you can often find good quality second hand children's clothes at op shops and garage sales, or handed down from friends and relatives. And don't forget to hand down your own kids clothes when they have outgrown them, or take them to the op shop.
