Community is a crucial part of a sustainable future. For a start, we need to travel less - to work, to school, to go shopping and for leisure activities. The stronger our local ties, the less we will need to travel.
   We also need to work at a local level to engage others in environmental issues - thinking globally, acting locally. That might mean getting involved in your children's school to organise a walking school bus or perhaps as school eco-garden. Or encouraging your footy club to install solar hot water for the showers. Or joining a bushcare group. Or a local environmental group.
