GreenPower
Many of Australia's electricity suppliers offer green energy schemes which allow you to have some or all of your grid electricity supplied from solar, wind, hydro, biomass or other renewable sources. The links below go to the relevent pages of their websites.
You should only buy accredited GreenPower. This means the energy supplier has been certified by the government's GreenPower scheme to indicate that for every watt of electricity you buy, they will invest in new renewable energy generation.
This is important because some energy companies were buying into existing renewable energy supplies - mainly hydro-electricity - and claiming this entitled them to sell "green power". But, because they were only selling the same renewable energy that existed before, joining one of these schemes did nothing to increase the total amount of renewable energy.
Buying accredited GreenPower with the official logo should ensure you are investing in genuine new renewable power generation.
