Organic & free range meat
Can eating meat be environmentally friendly? Click here to read our views on this subject. The short version, however, is there are serious concerns about the environmental impact of eating meat and you should consider giving up meat, and in particular red meat, which has the greatest environmental impact.
But... if you do eat meat then it is far better to choose organic.
Organic meat does cost more, and this reflects the fact that animals are treated much more humanely, given a lot more room to roam and not pumped full of chemicals, and that their feed is organic, which costs more to grow. However, organic meat is much tastier.
A good rule of thumb, then, for meat eaters might be to eat less quantity but better quality - and better quality means organic.
