Waterless & composting toilets
Find manufacturers, suppliers and retailers of waterless urinals, composting toilets and other water-saving toilets in Australia.
Australia is the driest inhabited continent on earth, in the middle of a prolonged drought. So it seems crazy that every day Australians literally flush vast quantities of high-quality drinking water down the toilet. To minimise the amount of water your toilet uses, make sure it is dual-flush, with a 3litre short flush. The long flush should be no more than 6litres, with some water-efficient models using as little as 4.5 litres.
Or go a step further and install a dry composting toilet (sometimes called a dry composting toilet) that doesn't use water at all. Instead, waste goes into a chamber where it dries and is turned into compost. An extractor removes any smells.
For offices and public buildings, there are waterless systems that use chemical blocks to kill bacteria (and thus neutralise odours) so the urinal doesn't have to be flushed repeatedly during the day - normally a single flush a day is enough.
